Cather, Willa. My Antonia. A young immigrant girl deals with her father’s suicide and accompanying responsibilities.

Clark, Mary Higgins. A Stranger Is Watching. A psychopathic killer brings terror and tragedy to a young newspaper reporter and the woman he loves.

Crais, Robert. L.A. Requiem. A gripping novel that envelops two private investigators in an ever-tightening web of conspiracies, secrets and mortal passions.

Crichton, Michael. Timeline. An adventure that opens on the threshold of the 21st Century in which information moves instantly between two points.
 
Cornwell, Patricia Daniels. Postmortem. Medical examiner Kay Scarpetta conducts an investigation that requires the latest advances in forensic medicine—and is being sabotaged from within.

Cussler, Clive. Raise the Titanic. A suspenseful tale depicting the greatest sea disaster of the 20th Century.

Esquivel, Laura. Like Water for Chocolate. As the “Library Journal” puts it, “Take one part Whitney Otto’s How to Make an American Quilt (McKay, 1991), add a smidgen of magical realism a la Garcia Marquez, follow up with several quixotic characters, garnish with love, and you’ll have Like Water for Chocolate.”

Giles, Gail. Shattering Glass. Fat, clumsy Simon Glass is a nerd, a loser who occupies the lowest rung on the high school social ladder—until Rob Haynes shows up.

Glenn, Mel. Who Killed Mr. Chippendale? A mystery which reveals the inner thoughts of the students and faculty concerning the murder of a high school teacher.

Grafton, Sue. B is for Burglar. Elaine Boldt is missing, and her sister wants Kinsey Millhone to find her. A complex mystery complete with twists and humor.

Grisham, John. Bleachers. For Neely Crenshaw, a man who must finally forgive his coach—and himself—before he can get on with his life, the stakes are especially high.

Hillerman, Tony.  A Thief of Time. While investigating the baffling disappearance of a noted anthropologist, the police attempt to solve the mysteries of an ancient Native American civilization.

King, Stephen. Firestarter. An eight-year-old boy was born with the most destructive power a human has ever commanded.

King, Stephen. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. Trisha McFarland becomes lost in a terrifying wilderness maze.

Morrison, Toni. The Bluest Eye. A young African-American girl prays for blue eyes hoping that changing their color will change her life.

Quindlen, Anna. Object Lessons. During a pivotal summer, young Maggie Scanlon struggles to deal with the realities of the adult world of her Irish-Italian family.

Woods, Brenda. Emako Blue. Emako, a beautiful, talented singer, is shot to death outside her South Central Los Angeles home. Four different narrators tell us the whole story.

Required reading for Honors English II:

Chopin, Kate. The Awakening. Few books in American literature are more courageous than this novel, written in 1899. It has been called the first feminist American text.

Steinbeck, John. The Grapes of Wrath. Forced from their home, the Joad family is lured to California to find work, but en route they encounter many hardships.

Listen NJ

Listen NJ is a free library service that offers downloadable audio books which are playable on computers, iPods, and MP3 players. Accessing ListenNJ is very easy: Click the link on the North Brunswick Public Library home page.
The first time you log in you will need to create an account and download OverDrive. To download OverDrive, simply click on one of the links on the right side of the ListenNJ page under Software Downloads. (If you plan to use an MP3 player, download the OverDrive MP3 Audiobook. It is a very small file but is essential for converting tracks.)
Next, create an account. Click on Audiobook Account. Select your library (which is Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium), type in your library card number (on the back of your library card, starts with 29302...) and your PIN (If you don't know your PIN, bring your library card to the library so we can look it up for you).
Next, simply search for a title or author for your summer reading list. Once the list is populated, select ADD TO CART. If you want more than one, click Continue Browsing. At any time, click on My Cart at the top to begin downloading.
Click Proceed to Checkout to finalize the process. Click Download. A box will open with Open with (OverDrive Media Console) select OK. The download will begin filling in your OverDrive Folder. Once it is complete, you can listen to it.
