Spring International Film Festival
THE GOLDEN DOOR

Italy, 2006, 118 minutes, rated PG-13.

At the turn of the twentieth century, a poor Sicilian family comes to America looking for a better life in this tribute to immigrants and the hardships they endured.  Salvatore Mancuso, his children and aged mother are joined on the passage by a mysterious Englishwoman who needs a husband. In return for their protection, Lucy helps them navigate their way from the Old World to the New.  Director Emanuele Crialese tells this simple story with surrealistic visual effects that mimic the magic and mayhem of the immigrant experience. The film was presented by Martin Scorsese at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2007.
