Users can access the North Brunswick Library catalog by clicking
on the “Catalog” link on the left side of the page.

Attention AOL Users: The features of the Library catalog do not work with the AOL browser. After connecting to the Internet with AOL, minimize AOL and open up Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Firefox.

 


Search the Catalog

Go directly to Catalog

1. Go to the Library homepage: www.northbrunswicklibrary.org

2. Click “Catalog” on the top left of the page.

3. The catalog will search the North Brunswick Public Library. If you wish to search a different library, click the box next to “Library” and select the library you wish to search. To search all libraries in our system, select “All” (at the top of the list).

4. Enter your search terms in the white box. Click on the most relevant button:

Title: If you know the exact title of a book, click in the circle next to “Alphabetic search,” type your title in the white search box, and click on the green “title” button.

Subject: Type your subject in the white search box and then click the green subject” button.

Author: Type the author’s name in the white search box and click the green “author” button.

Keyword: This is the default search. Typically you will receive too many results and the results may be confusing (keywords may be anywhere in the record). A keyword search will search all of the words from a record. Use keyword search when you do not know the exact title of an item. Click in the white circle next to the word “keyword”, type your keywords in the white search box, and click on the green words or phrase” box.

5. To View Record Details. Click on the green Details” button next to the title of the item that you are interested in to find out where the item is located and if it is checked out to another patron.

Click on “New Search” on the green bar at the top of the screen to look for another item.

Pin Numbers

Don't know your PIN? 

Call the library and we will either email it to you (if we already have your email on file) or we will "snail" mail it to you. Your PIN gives access to all your library accounts and to protect your privacy, we cannot give you your PIN over the phone. Thank you for understanding.

To change your PIN #:

1. Go to the Library homepage: www.northbrunswicklibrary.org

2. Click “Catalog” on the top left of the page.

3. When the catalog opens, enter your Library barcode number and PIN # in the white boxes on the top of the screen. Click the green “Login for More Features” button.


4. Click “My Account”

5. Click on the green “User PIN Change” button.

6. Enter your current PIN #.

7. Enter a new PIN # - Your PIN # can be composed of numbers and letters, but no special characters (!, @, #, etc...) or spaces. Your PIN # is not case-sensitive. Your PIN # should be from 4-10 characters long.

8. Re-enter your new PIN # in the white box.

9. Click the green “Change PIN” button.

Reserve an Item (Place a Hold)

Go directly to Catalog

Holds can be placed from home by using the Library catalog or by calling a Librarian at (732) 246-3545.

Reserving from Home:

1. Go to the Library homepage: www.northbrunswicklibrary.org

2. Click “Catalog” on the top left of the page.

3. Search for the title that you want to reserve.

4. On the results page, click on the green “Place Hold” button. Or, if you want more information about the titke before you place hold, click on the green “Details” button to the left of the title.

4a. If you clicked on the“Details” button, when the individual record loads, click on the “Place Hold” link beneath the “My List” button.

5. A new page will load. Enter your library card number and your PIN. The “Pickup” field should default to North Brunswick Public Library. Make sure that the pick up library is where you want to pick the item up.

Note: The Expiration Date is only used if you want the hold itself to expire (in other words, if you don't get the hold by a certain date, the hold will be cancelled.) You do NOT have to fill in this field.


6. You should see a message that says your name and the title that you have placed on reserve. Click on the green “OK” link to confirm.

Note: when you review your account, a list of the items you have placed on hold will appear.

Check Your Account

Go directly to Catalog

1. Go to the Library homepage: www.northbrunswicklibrary.org

2. Click “Catalog” on the top left of the page.

3. When the catalog opens, enter your Library barcode number and PIN # in the white boxes on the top of the screen. Click the green “Login for More Features” button.

 

4. Click “My Account”

5. Click “Review My Account”.

6. This will take you to a list of the items that you have charged out. You can also view due dates and fines from this screen.

Renew an Item

Go directly to Catalog

You can renew an item at the Circulation Desk or by calling (732) 246-3545. Renewals can also be placed from home through the Library catalog.

Renewing from Home:

1. Go to the Library homepage: www.northbrunswicklibrary.org

2. Click “Catalog” on the top left of the page.

3. Enter your library barcode number and PIN # in the white boxes on the top of the screen. Click the green “Login for More Features” button.

3. When the catalog opens, enter your Library barcode number and PIN # in the white boxes on the top of the screen. Click the green “Login for More Features” button.


4. Click “My Account”


5. Click “Renew My Materials.”

Renew selected items: The default is to renew any items you select. Click in the white box to the left of the title and then click on the green “Renew Selected Items” button on the bottom of the page.

Renew all items: To renew all of the titles, click in the white circle next to “Renew All.” Click on the green “Renew Selected Items” button on the bottom of the page.

7. A new page will load showing all of the titles that were renewed. If the item was renewed, the screen will say “Item Renewed”.  If the item was not renewed, it will say “Failed to Renew”. All items may not be renewable. DVDs and books from other libraries are not renewable. Click the green “OK” link on the bottom of the page.

Interlibrary Loan

Go directly to Catalog

If you are looking for a book that we do not own, we may be able to obtain it from another library. If the book is in our catalog, you may be able to obtain if by placing a reserve.

If the book is not in our catalog, we may be able to borrow this book from another library in New Jersey or out-of-state through a system called JerseyCat. To search JerseyCat and place a request for a book, please click the JerseyCat icon:
