Due to the lack of state funding, the existing multiyear contracts with NJKI database vendors have ended effective February 28. Journal articles and data are no longer accessible through NJKI for the next four months.  We hope and expect to have an NJKI program available in the '09 state budget to begin July 1, 2008.  If you would like to contact the Governor's office about this, click here for contact information.

Healthy New Jersey
HealthyNJ is a product of the University Libraries at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The Consumer Health Information Task Force, comprised of librarians from each of the four UMDNJ Campus Libraries, developed the content of the Web Site to meet the health care information needs of consumers, particularly the citizens of New Jersey. HealthyNJ also has relevance for NJ based policy makers and health care professionals. Content on the pages is selected and developed based on criteria including currency, accuracy, and relevance. Links are constantly monitored for viability and changes are made as necessary. We strive to abide by the Health On the Net Principles and adhere to the guidelines put forward by the Health Summit Working Group. In 2004 HealthyNJ began a partnership with staff from the Sala Hispanoamericana at the Newark Public Library to help grow the Spanish-language content of the site.

MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations. Nursing and Allied Health Coaliton: Expanded (EBSCOhost)
Nursing & Allied Health Collection: Expanded is a valuable resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 100 magazines. Examples of publications covered in Primary Search include: Appleseeds, Boys’ Life, Cobblestone, Cricket, Highlights for Children, Hopscotch, Jack & Jill, Ladybug, Ranger Rick, Science World, Spider, SuperScience, Time for Kids, Turtle, and many more. This database also provides the American Heritage Children’s Dictionary, 3rd Edition from Houghton Mifflin, and an Image Collection of 235,186 photos, maps and flags. Many full text titles are available in native (searchable) PDF, or scanned-in-color. Full text backfiles go as far back as 1990, while indexing and abstract backfiles go as far back as 1985.

MiddleSearch Plus  (EBSCOhost)
Middle Search Pluscontains full text for 140 popular, middle school magazines. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies and historical essays. Additionally, Middle Search Plus contains primary source documents including Essential Documents in American History, reference books including the Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia and American Heritage Dictionary, 4th Edition from Houghton Mifflin, the Encyclopedia of Animals, and an Image Collection of 235,186 photos, maps and flags.

This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for nearly 4,500 journals, including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 titles. Academic Search Premier is updated on a daily basis via EBSCOhost.

Digital Commons Institutional Repositories
Institutional Repositories (IRs) bring together all of an institution's research under one umbrella, with an aim to preserve and provide access to that research. IRs are an excellent vehicle for working papers or published articles and conference papers. Presentations, senior theses, and other works not published elsewhere can also be published in the IR.
